Who are the Dragons?

The Dragons brand encompasses two sides, the Dragons 7s, which is an invitational side, aiming to be one of the premier 7s teams competing on the women's 7s circuit and the Dreigiau 7s, which is the Welsh development arm, offering players qualified to represent Wales with the opportunity to play a good standard of 7s. There is a clear link between the two sides, with those players that impress with the Dreigiau team having the opportunity to represent the Dragons and play alongside some of the best international players on the circuit.

The Dragons 7s provides international standard players and those with the potential to play at international level, with the opportunity to represent a competitive women's 7s team on the thriving UK circuit. Strong links with national governing bodies, including Wales, Spain and the Netherlands provides a clear development pathway towards further honours for players with the drive and ambition.

This development pathway is well established with a number of the current Welsh squad having represented the Dragons prior to being called into the national squad. A couple of notable success stories are Laurie Harries, who played her first game of 7s for the Dragons back in 2011 before making her Wales 7s debut the following season and is now competing for a spot in the Team GB squad for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Further afield, Teresa Bueso, from Spain played for the Dragons 7s at Newquay in 2015 as a 17 year old and has now become an ever present in the Spanish World Series team.

The Dragons are a young side, but one that is packed full of exciting talent and experienced 7s players. Established international players representing the side are blended with exciting young prospects to create a team that always aims to be competitive, but has a great deal of fun along the way!
